The COMPOSTER
The
BICYCLE-POWERED
_________
The BEVERAGE CONTAINER
CAPTURE PROJECT
The Beverage Container Capture Project is sponsored by
the Alberta Beverage Container Recycling Corporation.  It
is under the "Community Partnership" program the
ABCRC is promoting.  The purpose of the partnership is
twofold:  first - to increase the amount of beverage
containers being diverted from the landfill, and second - to
get the funds to non-profit societies operating in
communities.
Composter Parts:
(some of the gearing is brand new - oh
well! We tried!).  It is windpowered
and turns very slowly to aerate and
keep moisture evenly distributed
throughout the pile.  Theoretically, the
feedstock (the raw materials you put in
like grass clippings, leaves, fruit &
vegetable peels), will be there for
about a week, travelling down the tube.
When the mixture reaches the exit, it
should be a lovely black mulch, ready
to go into a static pile for about 4
months.  It would be ready to mix with
soil as a nutrient in about 6 to 8 months.
We won't brag that this is the first
bicycle-powered _____ in existence,
or ever invented, but it IS the first on
public display in Peace River!  Come
up to the PCRS Recycling Centre and
try out your legs on the bike, see how
long you can get the _______ to
operate!  Imagine the amount of carbon
fuel needed to run your _______ in
your home!
